The problem
A machine had to be on and warming up before it was needed. That meant a person had to be there to switch it on, or remember to do it at the right time.
What I built
The company provided a relay board, a small device that switches power on and off. I wrote a desktop application that communicates with it and gives them a simple way to schedule each relay independently:
- Choose which relay controls which machine.
- Set when each relay should turn on.
- Let the app do the rest, on schedule, without anyone present.
Why it worked
It was a small, well-defined problem, so the right answer was a small, focused tool. No platform, no subscription, no moving parts the company didn’t need. They own it, and it does one job.
What this means for you
Not every problem needs a large system. If a repetitive physical or digital task can be triggered on a schedule, a simple purpose-built tool is often the cheapest and most reliable fix. That’s what the Custom Software service is for.
